My Plan To Save The Economy. Sort Of.

If only the president would have me as a consultant for all the major problems of the world.... Too bad I never want to be in politics. I just want somebody to use my ideas. So here is my new idea. I ran it by Pops, and he seemed to think it was okay.

The government needs to implement a program for any and all employers of the country to turn this economy situation around. Here is how it would work. Employers in the program would be required to give a minimum percentage raise to employees. I'll leave it to the economy analysts to determine this percentage. In return, the government will provide an adequate tax break to the employers to make this worth while. How exactly would this save the economy?

Well, we all know everything is getting more expensive. But lets face it, that's just the way the world goes. We all here the old folks saying how they remember when candy was a penny. And gas was less than $1/gallon. Rent was cheaper. Food was cheaper. Everything was cheaper. But back in the days of lower prices, were also lower pay rates. To bring everything back into balance, everyone needs an increase in pay.

If most of the people in this country had an increase in pay, everyone would benefit. The employees making more would be able to spend more, without as much of the crunch feeling on the wallet. Right now people are spending money on the essentials. Without pay increases, the economy is not going to bounce back and flourish. With an increase in pay, the average person would be able to pay for the essentials, and still have a little left for spending, saving, etc.

The employers would be taking a risk by doing this, because obviously nobody is spending money right now. They can't give raises unless they have more money coming in. The only way more money is going to come into a business is if more money is pumped through the system. So the employers would be spending money to make money. But the reason this needs to be a government program is because nobody is willing to take that risk. And they shouldn't. The employer gives his employees more money, but it is other people who are customers that get raises at their own jobs that will bring money back to the business.

The incentive to get this all going is the tax break. I never really understand why people do certain things that seem pointless to me, but my parents always reminded me that people will do anything for tax breaks. They hate giving money to the government. Some people will spend money on something that will only save them 50% of that money in taxes, but they still do it. People get married for tax breaks. Screw love, let's give the government less money! Don't even get me started on some of the other stupid shit people do for tax breaks. So give those companies a tax break next year, or the year after, and they will sign right up. Plus, if they get their heads out of their asses and stop looking at how bad things are now, and focus on how this could really help if EVERYBODY does it, maybe they will jump on board.

And no, I'm not going to talk about increasing minimum wage. I know minimum wage in this town would have you living in a cardboard box on the flood plains. And sadly its like that in most other places. The only places where minimum wage is enough is in awful places where nobody in their sane mind should live anyhow.

Think about it though. Would paying twice as much for food, gas, rent, mortgage, and everything else seem as bad if you were PAID twice as much? Of course there are a lot of people that don't need a pay increase because they already make enough they are just too freakin' stingy and feel like they deserve cheaper gas for some reason.

The only sad reality is nothing like my idea will ever happen because we need to spend billions of dollars looking at chunks of ice on Mars or flying around a president to make lame jokes during pathetic graduation speeches.

spending billions of dollars galavanting in space is so economical when there are food banks that can't keep up with the increase in demand since the cost of food has went up so much..... practical. that is our government for you...practical.

How much money have the presidential candidates wasted?

the raise idea takes the rebate idea and spreads it out over time, giving people the chance to really help get the economy and growth going forward again. i like it. i grew up a big fan of the space program, but now i look at it and wonder, 'for what?' who cares if there used to be water on mars when we have starving people on earth, horrible living conditions on earth, etc. wasted money is the biggest political problem i see, from government spending to political campaigns. if we could re-focus spending to areas of need, we could taake care of a lot of our problems. if we spent money on solar power instead of mars...
nice post, mag...i'd vote for you...
