Donuts

I went to the grocery store after dinner for a B&J's run, and as I was walking through the store I saw something disturbing. The cabinets at the little bakery section by the deli were cleared out completely. Ya know, the ones with donuts, cinnamon rolls, rolls, muffins, and stuff like that? Sitting next to them was a huge garbage can. And it was full of all the food that didn't get bought today. Seriously, they throw all that food away??? Then this reminded me of some feature I saw on TV about people that basically get all their food and drugstore stuff from dumpster diving at stores and restaurants. They just go the dumpsters behind these places and grab all the food that gets thrown away before it was consumed or gone bad. They had a name for it, but I can't remember it right now. And they were proud of it. Now, I'm definitely not going to do that, but the whole point is, how ridiculous is it that so much gets thrown away? I mean, wouldn't this make everything cheaper if we didn't overproduce? Not to mention all the extra waste being drove all around and filling up landfills. And now I'm wondering if there's a group of those people in my town. I swear, this world baffles me more and more everyday I read the news.

the amounts of food wasted by over-production are staggering...look at a restaurant like bubba's in cody, which everyone loves because they have a reasonably cheap plate of food and it is 'so big you can never finish.' that's NOT a good thing! and restaurants and grocery stores dump food while there's hungry people within blocks of them...that is messed up!
