This may shock everyone (okay not really), but I have some issues with this so called holiday. Nobody even calls it Independence Day anymore, which is probably good because most people are too drunk or busy to stop and consider what the hell this day is even for. But, well most people are off eating disgusting potato salads and those gross cheap hot dogs, I have other things that I particularly love about today. I am very happy to live in a country with all the freedoms we have, even though this country sucks in a lot of ways. It could be a lot worse, right?
Okay now back to the real reason I posted. One of the favorite things about July 4th always slips my mind until the news people remind me on the morning of the holiday. The hot dog eating contest!!!!!!! It's on ESPN right now, and they are gearing up to chomp down on those Nathan's for the ultimate prize. I always love when the little tiny chick comes in and kicks butt. She never wins, but she does pretty darn good. ESPN normally has reruns, so if you missed it today, look for that.
Oh, and last, one of my favorite things in Steamboat is the fireworks show. It seriously is one of the best events of the year in my book, and while it might not be as grand as State College's, its still pretty cool and I love it.
I hope everyone has a great day, if you even are reading this on the Fourth, and try to at least remember a few things about why this day exists.
