So. When the day finally arrived for our Olympics ticket allocation, we only ended up getting tickets to one event, an early round hockey game, which to be honest was one of our "filler" events. It totally sucked, since I put in requests for 5 events, Pops put in requests for 2 events, and we get one freaking event between both of us. I found out last night that there were requests for 166k tickets, or something like that, and 48k were distributed. I definitely got screwed in that lottery.
They announced recently a second phase of tickets were being released in a live session and would be available until they were all snatched up. Of course they wouldn't say what tickets they had. So toady is the day. I got up all early, the live session was supposed to start at 8. Finally around 9:20, they went live. Way to get on the ball with timing! And of course, scanning the list of available tickets, none of our events we wanted were available. Why couldn't they just say what tickets would be available ahead of time? And why couldn't they actually start when they said they would? It feels like the freakin' World Series with the Rockies fiasco all over again, with the same outcome of me being royally screwed.
Right now I have no clue what to do about all of this. I really really really want to go, but now our only options are to buy tickets from somebody else online (last night the ones we wanted were running around 4x the original price), or try to proceed with planning and hope to get tickets when we get there. This f-ing sucks!
And for those of you who wondered about the X-Games... it sucked. I know, I know, its really hard for me to believe it either. This is one event that is not catered to the live crowd at all. There was not enough room for how many people they let in, so it was beyond crowded, making it nearly impossible to see over the people in front of you. People were pretty much pissed off the whole time because it was so crowded, and there were lots of bad words being thrown around from stranger to stranger about pushing, shoving, trying to move up to the front, etc. There was one jumbo screen thingie, but it was placed about 50 yards back behind the spectator area, making it pretty much impossible to see. And, no announcing! What sort of event doesn't have live announcing? So to tell what rider was up, you had to either know what each guy was wearing, try to see the jumbo screen, or see if somebody around you knew. There was nobody announcing the tricks as they came down, and no announcement of scores or placing. Also, those live interviews they show of the riders after each run, they don't broadcast those over the speakers. It was snowing ridiculously hard all night, so that only added to the trouble.
After the event was over, we headed back toward the bus station and i finally put away my camera. I knew my pictures sucked since I could barely see anything the whole time, and we were all bummed out. About two minutes later I heard a few people start clapping and cheering a little bit. This group of about a dozen people coming out from a restricted area, walking right in front of me. And there they were, the medal winners, White, Pearce, and Autti, and a bunch of other dudes I don't know. I really wanted Kevin Pearce to win, but that other annoying guy beat him. These guys walked within a few feet of me, and I didn't have my camera out to catch the whole thing. It would've been my only good pictures, but no, I'm stupid and put it away thinking the "fun" was over. I was tempted to profess my love for Kevin Pearce as he walked by, but seeing those guys walking right by shocked me enough that I couldn't spit any words out. One day....
